The Worthington 5

This years Worthington 5 was the biggest yet with 169 runners, all of whom seemed to enjoy the new course, no complaints this year about Bull Hill, and some really excellent perfomances. Winner Derek Guest from Charnwood had a good lead and seemed to thoroughly enjoy it! Ladies winner Gemma Steel from Hermitage also had a good lead on the next lady home. We seem to attract a good quality feild to this race year after year. I was especially pleased that the weather held out for us, not least for the 20 or more marshalls who took time out to help, and not just from Ivanhoe, we had helpers from other clubs in the league which was great to see and very much appreciated. It was nice to see that Arriva had set up a regular bus service through the village to the Airport, but do we really need one every half hour. We had a team in both the mens and ladies race, the ladies working hard to keep their title in the BDSL from last year, lets keep up the good turn out and i'm sure it will come together.

The mens team were just short of a team prize this year, but lets face it where would you have put it?!! I would just like to end with a few thank you's. Many thanks to Andreas and Andrew of ALDI for sorting out the goody bags for the fun run and the marshalls, and that was some goody bag.

Thank you to Alan for organising the event and to Roger for the results. A big thank you to everyone who helped out on the night with entries, marshalling and to Dave Mann who seemed to do rather a lot. The villagers who were so very patient with us all for another year. The Malt Shovel who accomodated us all brilliantly. And thanks to the runners from the club who represented us in the league and did a fine job. If I have missed anyone out I am truly sorry, but if you were there then thank you.

I am looking forward to the first Tuesday in July 2008 already!! Your Chairman.
